Remove Email Account
In the case where you wish to remove an email account from your Thunderbird, you can easily do that without needing to uninstall/reinstall Thunderbird. This section guides you on how to remove email account from Thunderbird.
Open Account Settings
The first step is to open up your Account Settings
. You can do that by going
to Tools
> Account Settings
.
Removing Email Account from Thunderbird
Now that we’re done, we should start removing your email account.
Remove IMAP (inbox)
On the Account Settings
menu:
- Select anything inside under your email account.
- Select
Account Actions
. - When the sub-menu appears, select
Remove Account
. - Confirm the removal.
Create Null SMTP Account (Outbox)
Now we need to create a null SMTP account before removing your SMTP account. To do that:
- Select
Outgoing Server (SMTP)
on the right option list. - Select
Add
to create a null account. - Fill in a dummy account with description
None
. Here’s an example:- Description:
None
- Server Name:
zero.none.com
- Description:
- Fill in a dummy security and authentication.
- Connection Security:
None
- Authentication Method:
Password, transmitted insecurely
- User Name:
[email protected]
- Connection Security:
- Press
OK
to complete the null account creation. - Select the null account.
- Select
Set Default
. - Select
OK
.
Remove Your SMTP Account
Now that we have the null account set as default, you can proceed to remove your account. To do that:
- Select your SMTP account.
- Select
Remove
. - Confirm removal with
Yes
. - Press
OK
to complete the SMTP account removal process.
Delete the Data Directory
Now that the Thunderbird and account are already detached, you can safely remove
your data directory (example d:\Thunderbird\YourAccountName
) cleanly.
Once done, your email account is cleanly removed from this computer.
